Yayi to expand goat milk market

Tuesday, June 30, 2009

Yayi International Inc. — China’s leading goat milk products producer — has raised $15 million from SAIF Partners to expand production and marketing in Asia.

Yayi has been a “tremendous pioneer” in China’s dairy goat industry and SAIF is confident Yayi will build on its success and continue to grow, SAIF senior vice president Kenneth Lee said in a release.

Yayi, based in Tianjin, targets health-conscious consumers in premium markets and has an estimated 3,600 retail points across China in infant-maternity stores, drug stores and supermarkets with additional sales through catalogs, the release said.

SAIF is a China-focused private equity firm with $2.2 billion under management, Lee said. SAIF has invested in more than 100 private and public companies in Asia, primarily in China, including Perfect World, Shanda, China Digital TV, Eternal Asia, ATA Testing and SIFY Technologies, company officials said.
