Free Gigi

Thursday, July 30, 2009

This could have been just a quirky little story about a miniature pet goat named Gigi being kicked out of an neighborhood festival in Milwaukee, Wis.

Instead, writer Michael McElwrath pens a scathing indictment of local officials showing them as they were that night — hypocritical and ridiculous. Through it all, Gigi maintains her poise proving herself above the fray, the roaming dogs and the bureaucratic officers of the law.

It was a dastardly evening and McElwrath makes it clear: Gigi’s honor must be defended. Clearly, Gigi’s friends are litigious and plan on taking her all the way to freedom, as we learn from this quote:

“And when that time comes we will proudly walk this darling little dwarf goat around town without worry of reprisal and all of Gigi’s friends and neighbors can enjoy her as we do, without interruption and threat of persecution.”

Editor’s Note: We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: “Wherever goats are out-lawed, only outlaws will have goats.” Viva la Gigi!
