Rosie Whitehead Jones: Goat Matriarch

Monday, July 20, 2009

Rosie Whitehead Jones, now in her 80s, tells The San Angelo Standard Times about her family starting its goat operation more than 100 years ago on 150,000 acres in Texas.

Jones and her brothers were among the first to bring Boer goats to the United States from South African and New Zealand. In 2004, the Whitehead’s Boer buck, Rasper, was named Reserve World Champion in South Africa.

When her husband died in 1986, Jones sold her home in Del Rio, Texas, and moved back to ranch, where her brothers still live and work raising goats and cattle. Learn more about Rosie’s ranch in this story.
