Tushar Mountain Goat Watch

Sunday, July 26, 2009

The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources hosts its annual Tushar Mountain Goat Watch Aug. 8. The event is free and offers the chance to see as many as 100 mountain goats. In years past, goats and viewers have come within 35 feet of each other.

Participants, driving their own vehicles, are to meet up with resources manager Lynn Chamberlain and then caravan 11,500 feet to the top of the Tushar Mountains, a thriving habitat for mountain goats with a view of all of southern Utah. The alpine-tundra ecosystem also is home to pika and yellow-bellied marmots.

For more information about the goat watch, read this Outdoor News Daily story has more information or call the resource’s southern region office at (435) 865-6100.
