Angora Goats: Texas
Writer Jerry Lackey of the San Angelo, Texas, Standard-Times has an elegant way of integrating the present with the past.
In his columns about ranchers and land and livestock, Lackey brings us up close to Texans who work hard, fall down, get up and keep plugging, despite the worst weather and financial markets.
In this column, he tells readers about badly needed rain arriving recently in West Texas and then takes them to a year ago when a hard downpour killed several hundred head of freshly shorn Angora goats:
“Once the Angoras are sheared, they need to be kept warm, especially during cold, rainy times,” Lackey writes. “Otherwise, they hump up shivering, stop moving or bunch up and die.”
