Nubian Goats: Emma

Saturday, October 10, 2009

EMMA MAEintSusan Ragan is a former Associated Press photographer who now shoots commercially from her home in Sheridan, Oregon. She has a 25-acre farm with myriad animals, including several dairy goats and a new Andalusian filly.

Among her goats is the lovely Emma, shown here. Emma came from the livestock auction in Woodburn, Oregon, as Susan tells us:

“She’s just about a year old now. In that picture she was about three or four months. She’s not as tame as my other goats because she was started on a goat farm and probably wasn’t handled much until she was traumatized at auction.

“Just now, a year later, can I just pet her without her zooming off. She’s my prettiest goat and will probably always be. I think she’s extremely beautiful.”

Eds. Note: Earlier this year, we posted one of Susan’s photos we named Triple Threat.

  1. Nubians…my favorite. And I agree, Emma is a beauty. I love how the young kids are all ears. There is nothing like a sweet nubian face!

  2. Emma is indeed a beauty. I like the nubians and the La Manchas quite a bit.

Emma is a beauty. Her owner is a professional photographer who knows how to frame her goats in the right light and settings to get the most from the photos.
