Penn State: Meat Goats 101

Tuesday, October 13, 2009

Meat goat ranching is becoming increasingly popular with commercial farmers and homesteaders alike.

To that end, the Penn State Cooperative Extension Office is offering a winter course online covering everything from a general overview of meat goat production to selecting meat goats and developing a market plan.

The course, which begins Jan. 3, 2010, also covers myriad issues on health, feeding, body condition scoring and flushing nannies. The course materials, which are extensive, are available in advance here.

Eds Note: The Meat Blog also has posts and video on Body Scoring and the arguable merits of Average Daily Weight Gain.
