Rural Idiocy

Wednesday, October 14, 2009

Max Akroyd lives on a small farm in Brittany, France. On June 1, 2011 he will begin a year of “Rural Idiocy” — but inspired idiocy.

From June 2011 to June 2012, Max will attempt a year of self-sufficiency, living on just the plants he grows and the animals he raises. No ready meals. No convenience food. No coffee. No booze, unless he can make it himself.

From now until then, he’s seeking all the wisdom that can be mustered from every corner of the Internet. So please help us in supporting him and climb on board for what should be quite an adventure.

The goats along for this ride are shaggy Chevre des Fosses, or Ditch Goats, a breed historically used by the landless who grazed on common land. Today, they’re used mostly as a “lawnmower and hedgetrimmer,” Max tells us.
