Dairy Goats Down Under

Picture 3CULCAIRN, Australia — Former cattle rancher Evelyn Osewald discusses her Santana Goat Dairy, one of two goat dairies in the region that supply milk to the Milawa Cheese Company.

“It is a profitable business, otherwise I wouldn’t be doing it,” Osewald told The Border Mail, noting parasites, however, are a problem for her herd.

“Goats are much more difficult than a cow to keep healthy and well because of the amount of milking they go through and because they are forced to graze on pasture rather than browsing on long grass, which is their preference. So worms can be a big problem.”
