Women Raising Goats
Women represent more than 30 percent of principal farm operators in the United States, an increase of 19 percent in five years, federal ag statistics show.
This story from The Zanesville (Ohio) Times Recorder says goats, being compact and multi-purpose for milk, meat and fiber, are easier to handle than cattle and hogs, making them a popular choice with many women farmers.
Featured are New Concord, Ohio, women Karen Burkhart, who has about 40 goats, and Mary Morrow of New Concord, who is currently raising about 300 meat goats.
