The Goat Tower

Thursday, December 31, 2009

PAARL, South Africa — Anyone who raises goats knows they like to climb. The trick is finding something interesting for them to climb on, jump off and play their favorite game, king of goat pile. Fairview Cheese and Wine Farm came up with a novel idea, the goat tower. Not only is it sturdy and attractive to look at but it offers just the things goats desire most: height, curves to walk on and places to hide and stand guard against interloping lower ranked goats.  The idea seems to have caught on. Although Fairview’s tower was the first of its kind, there are now known goat towers at Ekeby Farm in Moss Norway as well as Silky O’Sullivan’s, a pub in Memphis, Tennessee and the Tower of Baaa in Findlay, Illinois.
