Goats the New Chickens
Oregon’s Willamette Week predicts goats will replace chickens as the must-have backyard companion of 2010.
Goats have become so “omnipresent” around Portland that “it’s time torecognize them as the pet poised to break out as most likely to show up in your neighbor’s yard next year,” Willamette Week wrote in its 2010 predictions story.
Portlanders can keep as many as three pygmy goats without acquiring a livestock permit, said Naomi Montacre, who owns two pet pygmy goats and an organic food store in Portland.
“There continues to be this desire to have agricultural animals in our lives,” Montacre said, noting goats make good pets “like cats and dogs — and they’re more friendly than sheep.”

I love my goats, I have 2 pygmys. They are great pets and they eat all the leaves that fall on the ground!
It’s true! I keep having more and more goat sightings here in Portland, Oregon.
Of course, I’d like to think I had a little something to do with that, what with the film and all (www.JourneyToKathmandu.com).
Cheers,
Chris
