Kidding: What It Looks Like

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

YouTube has some excellent videos of goats kidding that we thought we’d share with you. Please be advised that these are graphic vidoes showing actual births.

Jim, somecallmejim on YouTube, offers this video from 2007 along with running commentary and snappy background music. Jim’s video gives the viewer a look at some pre-birth behavior, not to mention some conversation with the mom-to-be. You’ll note we goat people spend a fair amount of time peering under tails. Although this video shows quite a bit of human intervention, most goats handle kidding with minimal or no assistance.

In katldy42’s video from 2008, Goat Giving Birth, she gives us a more straightforward kidding in real time. Interestingly, the second is a breach birth.

Last but not least, is something you don’t see every day: quads. Cattleprod and family participate in the real time, births of four Nigerian Dwarf kids. Almost as cute as the goats, are the human children.
