Lela Perez: All Things Goat Intern

Sunday, January 24, 2010

KILLEEN, Texas — We ‘met’ Lela on Twitter and immediately were impressed by her wit, maturity, articulate nature and love of her Boer “goatiepies” — Mamie Eisenhower, Sugar Daddy and Jellybean.

Lela, 16, has had goats for two years and is deeply involved in FFA with her first county livestock show coming up in just two weeks. (Lela wanted to perfect her clipping skills on her younger brother before turning the clippers on Sugar Daddy. Her brother said ‘no.’)

Lela’s mother is a teacher and her father an engineer so it’s clear why she is so well-spoken. Lela’s love of agriculture comes from her grandmother, who grew up with a multitude of animals and lets Lela keep her “three bundles of goatness” in her backyard.

Lela already is Twittering for All Things Goat and will be writing posts about youth and goats. Lela’s ambition is to be a rancher and she is well on her way.
