Friday, February 19, 2010

The flagging market for mohair in South Africa is causing South African goat farmers concern. But rather than sit and worry, some farmers are working to increase awareness in the multi-purpose nature of their goats.

Elna van den Bergh of Blaaukrantz, Jasenville, along with three partners, is experimenting with ways to use and market other parts of Angora goat in addition to the well known fiber says a recent story from Meat Trade Daily News.

Ms. van den Bergh has gone beyond the normal meat cuts and milk to also looking at ways in which the blood, organs and skin can be processed into marketable products.
