Calm Before the Kidding Storm

Wednesday, February 10, 2010

JORDAN, Mn. — Laura and Chris at Four Seasons Farm are close to kidding season — the first doe is due March 4 — and they’re asking for help in choosing names for this year’s arrivals.

They’re thinking the name theme might be around magic or stars, so if you have some celestial ideas send them here.

Laura and Chris say they use lots of tender loving care in raising pastured, high-quality registered Saanen and Nubian dairy goats that are tested annually for CAE, caprine arthritis encephalitis.

Now is the calm before the kidding storm, with time enough to give everyone a scratch on the head, a neck rub and plenty of attention. Once those babies arrive, it will be a different story, as anyone who raises goats knows.

Eds. Note: Sleep-deprived Naimhe Jeanne was saying this morning she feels like a mountain the kids swarm and try to climb every time she enters her barn to bottle feed.
