In Search of a Guard Donkey
Rarely does one hear (or in this case see) “cud-chewing ungulate with the countenance of a beanie baby”, especially when discussing donkeys. That’s just what you’ll find, and more, in a recent article from Field and Stream’s Field Notes section.
Check out the videos, they’re definitely worth seeing and, yes, Chad, it’s true. People keep donkeys to beat up coyotes. But I think you’ll be safe as long as you’re polite. Oh, and you don’t decide to bite a goat.

I dunno – I’ve been around guard donkeys, Llamas, and LGD’s – I’ll take a good LGD ANY day!
That’s my preference too but I’ve heard some really good things about donkeys and llamas both and know some people who swear by them. I haven’t tried either as I imagine they don’t mix well with cattle dogs.
My FIL has two, and I’ve been around them before. I know people who use dogs to GUARD donkeys! We thought long and hard before getting dogs. After much thought, we realized that it was an EASY decision.
