President’s Daily Goat Sacrifice

Tuesday, February 2, 2010

Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari has had a black goat sacrificed nearly every day since taking office in September 2008 to ward off “black magic” curses and the “evil eye.”

The hundreds of sacrifices have occurred at the presidential palace, where Zardari touches each black goat before slaughter, spokesman Farhatullah Babar told The Hindustan Times.

“It has been an old practice of Mr. Zardari to offer “Sadqa” (animal sacrifice),” Babar said. “He has been doing this for a long time.”

Black partridges brought to Zardari to “exploit their magical effects” were electrocuted when their cage came into contact with a live wire, Babar said.
