Manitoba Goat Meat Market Grows

Wednesday, March 31, 2010

MANITOBA, Canada — Meat goat farmers in Manitoba say they’ve butchered about 400 goats since establishing a slaughter program a year ago.

Until the program was established, most goats in Manitoba had to be sent to abattoirs in Ontario or Alberta for slaughter.

Market growth is brisk in the region, to the point where demand is greater than supply, said Bill Paulishyn, president of the Manitoba Goat Association, which has about 95 members.
