Trimming Goat Hooves
In this video, shepherd Daniel Botkin says hoof trimming can be a “gnarly and dangerous job,” especially at the end of winter when manure has gotten jammed up in the hoof and the hoof itself is ragged with growth.
Botkin, of Laughing Dog Farm, of Gill, Mass., is an organic gardener and permaculture advocate who believes in “lovingly growing the finest food in the world.”

I am a newby and one of my does is a recue with an appalling foot. She is a nice big boer, young and has great temperment so I thought she was well worth working through the problem. I did a lot of soaking (taped a bag over the foot, works great) applied various, remedies, did a lot of clipping and the infection seems to be gone but now that I can see whats going on there is no hoof left on the inside of one “toe” There must have been absess that destroyed the hoof. What I need to know is how long does it take for the hoof to regrow and when should I expect her to walk normally. Right now she can walk but prefers not.
