CYPRUS –

The Cyprian Agriculture Ministry, along with scientists, have determined the origin of a small goat-like animal, locally called an Agrinaki, to be a cross breed of Moufflon and Peloponessian mountain goat.

It’s extremely unusual for differing species to produce offspring so the Agrinaki’s parentage came as a bit of a surprise. The Agrinaki, also called a mini Moufflon, is also unique in its tiny stature and full length tail as compared to the Moufflon and mountain goat.

However, not everyone is as enamored of the new species. Local farmers say the Agrinaki are wreaking havoc on fruit production. The agility of the little critters makes it difficult to keep them out of orchards and, by some accounts, dogs have learned to keep their distance. The government is concerned about the growing numbers of Agrinaki and are considering a cull in order to protect fruit production.
