Thieves Go To Jail

Wednesday, April 28, 2010

Don’t mess with goats in Israel or you will pay. In 2009, two men absconded with about 200 goats from the Ein Camonim goat farm in Galilee with an eye to sell them to a merchant in the West Bank.

The thieves installed the caprines in a truck and two containers attached to wagons and went on their way. While the majority of the goats have been returned to their home, Judge Lili Jung-Goffer wasn’t going to let it slide.

The two thieves were given 2 1/2 years and 4 years while the merchant was sentenced to 4 1/2 years. All were also given fines. The judge hopes the stiff sentences will deter others from agricultural theft stating that all farmers suffered from such a theft in terms of the price they must invest in security and the public as well in higher costs of products.
