Accident Prone Goats

NOBLESVILLE, Ind. –

It’s not necessarily the goats that are accident prone in this northern suburb of Indianapolis, it’s the drivers, but the goats are being blamed. Daniel Ault has goats on his farm and they are raising quite a stir in the neighborhood.

Of 14 accidents on 191st Street during the past year and a half, 3 of them have been in the vicinity of Ault’s goats. Neighbors say his fencing is substandard and the goats are causing accidents but Mr. Ault says he’s installed all new fencing to the tune of $6000.

We in the goat world know that even with good fencing, goats will sometimes get out. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department says that of all the accidents in the area, two of them involved animals in the road. While animals running at large can be a hazard, conscientious, alert drivers should be able to spot a caprine wandering the roadside in plenty of time to apply the brakes and Mr. Ault should ensure his animals are being kept safely at home.
