Goat Tying

Sunday, May 30, 2010

While a popular event at rodeo, goat tying doesn’t appear very fair to the goat. The goat tying event involves a rider on horse galloping up to a goat which is tied on a 10′ rope. The rider jumps off the horse, snatches the goat and ties three of its legs together. Speed is of the essence in this event as the fastest time wins.

Now it seems to me that if the goat wasn’t tied to a stake, it’d be a bit more sportsmanlike, but no one asked me. Regardless, it’s a common event for high school and college aged girls and by boys and girls in junior rodeo classes.

Here’s a goat tying video. Ah, the things we humans do for entertainment.
