Teaching Urban Homesteading

DENVER, Colo. –

James Bertini is an urban homesteader. Not extremely uncommon these days with the growing interest in self-sufficiency, but Bertini has taken his interest a step farther.

Mr. Bertini and his wife operate Denver Urban Homesteading, a resource and skills learning center where they offer classes in such things as gardening, fish farming, raising backyard chickens and goats and even furniture refinishing. The center also offers heirloom seeds, chicken coops, mini greenhouses and their own canned and dried food stuffs.

In this interview, published in The Atlantic, Bertini explains his philosophy and the reasons why he believes homesteading is on the rise and is important to the average person.
