Girl Makes Name in Goats

Friday, June 4, 2010

She may be young but Lauren Schifsky is no newcomer to goats. Schifsky got her first goat at 6 and by 11 she had begun to develop a herd that is now Aubrey’s Acres, a Nigerian dwarf breeding and sales operation owned and operated by the 18 year old.

Schifsky handles all of the day to day affairs of her business located on her parent’s 10 acre farm. She gets a little help from her father in dehorning and castrating but otherwise, the goats are her thing. She’s been so successful that she was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the Girls Going Places Entrepreneurship Contest held by Golden Life Insurance and her business is thriving.
