Dark side of petting zoos

AKA, “The Goat That Made Me Pee In Public”.  As a kindergartner, April Trice had a bad goat experience, a very bad experience. It’s the type of encounter that will turn a person away from goats forever and while it might make you chuckle a little to read her account, it makes you wonder why those goats weren’t better managed and why small children were allowed into the presence of a potentially threatening caprine.

It’s incumbent upon the people who offer hands-on livestock to the public to ensure that public’s safety. You don’t put a rutting buck out with small children. You don’t offer up an aggressive doe for city kids to pet if once their back are turned, that doe will knock them down and stamp them. What could have been a wonderful barnyard experience for April instead turned into a lifetime hatred of goats, for both her and her child. Take note, people, and take responsibility for both your animals and the people you allow within their reach.
