Ethiopia expands goat meat exports

Friday, February 18, 2011

Ethiopia agriculture is getting a boost soon. Officials announced that Iran is set to buy 10,000 tons of cattle, sheep and goat meat from that nation. The purchase is a first as Iran has never imported meat from Ethiopia.

Ethiopia mainly exports meat to Gulf countries and is working to expand those exports to include additional markets. Final arrangements are due to be signed with Lebanon which will not only market within that nation but also to Iraq Jordan and Syria. Talks are also taking place with Turkey and there is hope for future expansion in other countries as well.
